Plot: Soren (Jim Sturgess) is a young adventurous owl who loves hearing stories from his father Noctus (Hugo Weaving) about the legend of the Guardians of Ga'Hoole, a legendary alliance of owls that are sworn to protect the Kingdom of Ga'Hoole. His younger sister Eglantine (Adrienne deFaria) is enamored with these stories, but his older brother, Kludd (Ryan Kwanten), is jealous of the attention Soren receives. One night after accidentally pushing each other off of a tree branch, Soren and Kludd are captured and taken to St. Aegolius Academy, home of the "Pure Ones" and led by the evil Metalbeak (Joel Edgerton) and his mate Nyra (Helen Mirren).

The Pure Ones are a group that believes that Barn Owls are the purest of all owl races and that they should be the owl world's rightful leaders. They plan to wage war against the Guardians of Ga'Hoole to achieve this goal. They plan to brainwash, or "moon-blink", scores of kidnapped owlets to be used as "pickers", dissecting owl pellets to find "flecks" of metal which affect owls. Soren manages to avoid being moon-blinked, along with fellow abducted Dwarf Owl Gylfie (Emily Barclay). With the help of the Pure One's librarian Grimble (also Hugo Weaving), who has been secretly planning to revolt, Soren escapes the Academy with Gylfie and journeys onwards to the Great Ga'Hoole Tree, meeting and befriending Great Grey Owl Twilight (Anthony LaPaglia) and Burrowing Owl Digger (David Wenham) along the way.

While flying in a blizzard, Digger's wings ice up and he falls toward the ocean. Soren tries to rescue him, but after not being able to find him, he believes that Digger is gone forever. Just as he has given up hope, two huge Snowy Owls fly out of the waves carrying Digger and Gylfie. Soren realizes they are the Guardians and follows them.

At the Guardian's tree, Soren and Gylfie tell the Guardian leaders what the Pure Ones are trying to do. Soren's honesty convinces the Guardian leader to send a group of owls to investigate. Soren and his friends begin training to help fight against the Pure Ones, with help from wise Whiskered Screech Owl, Ezylryb (Geoffrey Rush), who featured prominently in the legend of the Guardians and was Soren's hero. The reconnaissance group returns, carrying several rescued owlets - one of them being Eglantine, who was kidnapped by Kludd. This convinces the Guardians to go to battle against the Pure Ones, and they begin preparing. Soren manages to snap Eglantine out of her hypnosis and finds out that Kludd has become a soldier for the Pure Ones.

The Guardians fly off to battle the Pure Ones, leaving Soren and his friends behind. Suddenly, Soren realizes that the Guardians will be ambushed and sets off to save them with his friends. At the Academy, the Guardians are led towards the flecks and are all incapacitated. Soren frees the Guardians by destroying the device containing the flecks, and the Guardians and Pure Ones continue to battle. During the conflict, Soren confronts Kludd and tries to convince him to come back to his family, but he refuses. After the brothers fight, Kludd ends up hanging by his talon to Soren over a burning forest. Soren tries to save him, but Kludd slips away and falls into the flames. Soren confronts Metalbeak, angry at him for brainwashing his brother. Soren eventually kills Metalbeak by impaling him on a burning stick. This convinces Nyra to retreat, and the Pure Ones fly away. Back at the Tree of Ga'Hoole, Soren, Gylfie, Twilight, and Digger are recognized as heroes, and Soren reunites with his family. ~wikipedia~
